Description

Electromagnetic flow meter ERS-50 (flow meter ERS-50) (NIO-35) is designed to measure the average volumetric flow rate and volume of various liquid media with a specific electrical conductivity from 10⁻³ to 10 S/m.

The ERS-50 flow meters can be used in food, dairy processing, and other industries for commercial purposes, as well as in various technological processes.

Operating Principle of ERS-50 Flow Meters

The operating principle of the ERS-50 electromagnetic flow meters is based on Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction, which states that when an electrically conductive liquid passes through a magnetic field, an electromotive force (EMF) is generated in the liquid, proportional to the average velocity of the liquid.

To implement this principle, a section of pipeline made from non-magnetic material with an electrically insulating inner surface coating is used. Two electrodes are inserted into the pipeline, positioned diametrically opposite to each other in the same cross-section.

The pipeline is located between the poles of a magnetic system, with the electrodes perpendicular to the magnetic field lines. The voltage on the electrodes (E) is described by the equation:

E = B⋅D⋅W = 4⋅B⋅Q / πD, (1)

where B is the magnetic induction;
D is the nominal internal diameter of the pipeline;
W and Q are the average velocity and average volumetric flow rate of the liquid, respectively.

The average volumetric flow rate and volume (V) of the liquid flowing through the electromagnetic flow meter (EMD) pipeline are determined by the formulas:

Q = (Ni - HY) ⋅ λ ⋅ PR + SN; (2)

V = Q ⋅ t_liq, (3)

where Ni is a code proportional to the voltage on the electrodes (E);
HY is the initial zero level code Ni value measured during ERS factory certification and periodic verification or calibration;
λ is a coefficient calculated during design;
PR and SN are the proportionality coefficient and zero offset, defining the nominal static characteristic. These coefficients are set with high accuracy at the factory during ERS certification and may be specified during operation;
t_liq is the liquid flow time.

To minimize electrode polarization, a low-frequency pulsed magnetic field is used in the EMD.

ERS-50 Construction

The ERS-50 flow meter consists of an electromagnetic flow sensor (EMD) and a secondary electronic converter (SV), connected by a cable 5 m long. The maximum cable length is 30 m.

The electromagnetic flow sensor comprises a measuring channel, magnetic system, and housing.

The measuring channel is a pipe made of non-magnetic stainless steel 12X18H10T according to GOST 9941-81, with an inner surface coated with electrically insulating material — fluoroplastic F4D according to TU 6-65-1937-82.

The electrodes are made of titanium BT 5 type according to OST 1.90173-75, positioned diametrically opposite in the middle cross-section of the measuring channel and insulated from its walls.

The magnetic system consists of excitation coils and a magnetic circuit. The excitation coils are made of copper winding wire and are diametrically opposite on the measuring channel pipeline.

The ERS-50 electromagnetic flow meter housing is made of stainless steel and welded to the measuring channel pipeline.

The EMD is mounted on the pipeline using threaded or flanged connections.

The secondary converter is housed in an aluminum casing consisting of a base and cover, sealed with a rubber gasket. The base and cover are connected by four screws that do not fall out.

Inside the base is a power supply and signal conversion board with terminals for connecting the power source, EMD, and external devices.

The controller board with the display unit is located on the inside of the cover; a semiconductor indicator is installed behind a transparent window. Measurement results are shown on a 9-digit semiconductor display. An additional remote indicator (up to 100 m) can be installed to display the current volume value.

The front panel has three multifunctional buttons for controlling the operating modes of the ERS-50 flow meter-counter.

The connection between the board and the display unit is made using a cable with connectors.

The ERS-50 flow meter ensures high accuracy in measuring current and total volume in liters, average volumetric flow rate in l/s and m³/h, and self-diagnostics. In dosing mode, ERS supports setting the liquid dose value for controlling an external actuator with switching circuit voltage up to 380 V.

The flow meter has an RS-232 interface for communication with a personal computer and a pulse output adjustable from 1 to 100 pulses/liter. The electromagnetic flow sensor (EMD) is a direct measuring pipe with fluoroplastic coating without moving or protruding parts, enabling non-disassembly cleaning with hot detergents, air purging, and steam sterilization, and eliminates additional pressure losses.

The ERS-50 electromagnetic flow meter has a 4-20 mA output current, corresponding to the flow range from 0 to the upper measurement limit.

The connection of the EMD to the pipeline is performed using an Rd78 threaded flange according to ST REV 307-76, included in the delivery set.

The ERS-50 electromagnetic flow meter maintains metrological characteristics when using an air separation system that prevents air presence in the measured medium.

The ERS-50 electromagnetic flow meter-counter has been operated at Ukrainian dairy enterprises since 1994.

REGMIK produces an updated and significantly improved version of the ERS-50 Electromagnetic Flow Meter.
