Resistance temperature detectors (temperature sensors TSM, TSP, TXA, TXK, TZHK, thermometers, RTD, thermocouples, Pt100, Pt500, Pt1000) are designed to measure temperature of the surrounding environment, liquids, gaseous and bulk chemically non-aggressive media, as well as surfaces. Let's consider the operating principle of different temperature sensors produced by the company.Resistive Temperature Sensors (RTD, TSM, TSP)
Let's look at the first type of electrical sensors - resistance temperature sensor or RTD. Temperature sensors are precision temperature sensors made from high-purity conductive metals such as platinum, copper, or nickel, which are wound into coils, and whose electrical resistance changes depending on temperature, similar to a thermistor. Thin-film RTDs are also available. These devices have a thin layer of platinum paste applied on a white ceramic substrate. Resistive temperature sensors have positive temperature coefficients (PTC), but unlike thermistors, their output signal is extremely linear, providing very accurate temperature measurements. At the same time, they have very low thermal sensitivity, meaning temperature changes cause only very small changes in output resistance, e.g., 1 Ohm/°C. The most common types of resistance thermometers are made of platinum and are called platinum resistance thermometers or PRT, with the most common being Pt100, Pt500, Pt1000 sensors, which have standard resistance values of 100, 500, 1000 Ohms at 0 °C respectively. The enterprise serially manufactures resistance thermometers of type TSM (sensors with GOST 50M, 53M, 100M), TSP (sensors with GOST 50P, 100P, Pt100, Pt500, Pt1000) of various modifications. The enterprise can manufacture temperature sensors TSM, TSP, TXA, TXK, TZHK according to customer individual requirements.Thermocouples (TXA, TXK, TZHK)
A thermocouple is the most common type of temperature sensor. Thermocouples are popular due to their simplicity, ease of use, and rapid response to temperature changes, mainly due to their small size. Thermoelectric converters also have the widest temperature range among all temperature sensors - from -200 °C to over 2000 °C. Thermocouples are thermoelectric sensors consisting of two junctions of dissimilar metals, such as copper and constantan, which are welded or clamped together. One junction is maintained at a constant temperature, called the reference (cold) junction, and the other is the measuring (hot) junction. When the two junctions have different temperatures, a voltage arises at the junction used to measure the temperature. REGMIK enterprise manufactures temperature sensors (TSM, TSP, TXA, TXK, TZHK, TP) both in standard versions and according to individual customer requirements.Applications of Temperature Sensors
Temperature sensors are used in a wide variety of fields:
- heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems;
- boiler rooms and heat points;
- pumping and compressor equipment;
- refrigeration installations;
- industrial automation;
- food, chemical and pharmaceutical industries;
- power engineering;
- marine and mobile hydraulic equipment;
- microclimate control systems;
- technological lines and production processes.
In heating systems, a temperature sensor helps maintain the set boiler operation mode, controls the temperature of the heat carrier, and prevents overheating. In industry, such sensors ensure the stability of technological processes and protect equipment from emergency modes.
How to Choose a Temperature Sensor
When choosing a temperature sensor, it is important to consider not only the temperature range but also the operating conditions. Main selection parameters:
- type of sensitive element: Pt100, Pt1000, thermocouple, or other option;
- temperature measurement range;
- accuracy and response speed;
- type of medium: water, air, steam, oil, gas, or other substance;
- mounting method;
- immersion length;
- case and protective sleeve material;
- availability of signal converter;
- type of electrical connection;
- degree of enclosure protection;
- resistance to vibration, moisture, pressure, and aggressive environments.
For standard tasks, Pt100 or Pt1000 sensors are usually sufficient. If the equipment operates at very high temperatures, it is better to consider thermocouples. For integration into modern automation systems, models with standardized output signals are convenient.
Advantages of Quality Temperature Sensors
A reliable temperature sensor provides accurate measurement, stable signal, and long service life. Quality models have sturdy construction, protection from external influences, and can operate in harsh industrial conditions.
A properly selected temperature sensor enables:
- increased control accuracy of equipment;
- reduction of overheating or overcooling risks;
- optimization of energy consumption;
- automation of temperature control;
- extension of equipment life;
- ensuring stability of production processes.
